The Planets are fundamental in astrology.

Each of these celestial bodies is said to possess its own unique energy signature and influence, which is affected by the signs of the Zodiac they pass through as they transit across the sky.

Your natal chart’s placement of the planets adds complexity and variety to your astrological profile, and the interactions between them (the aspects) shed light on where, when, why, and how specific phenomena may manifest for you.

Planetary Meanings in Astrology

Astrology takes into account 10 “planets” which include the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

Although Pluto has been re-classified as a dwarf planet and the Sun and Moon are technically luminaries and not actual planets, they are all frequently referred to as planets despite the fact that they are not considered to be true planets.

In your Natal Chart, the Sun, Moon, and Rising Sign are referred to as “the big 3,” as they are the factors that are thought to have the greatest influence on you as an individual.

Knowing someone’s Sun, Moon, and Rising Sign can give you a good idea of who they are. However, because we are complicated and multifaceted beings, you also need to know the positions of all the other planets and placements in a natal chart to really understand the complete picture.

The following three planets—Mercury, Venus, and Mars—are considered to be “Personal Planets” since they have a quicker orbit and switch Zodiac Signs and Houses more frequently than the other planets, making each individual’s cosmic mix particularly unique. Due to their slightly slower orbit and therefore having an impact on a higher number of people at once, Jupiter and Saturn are referred to as the “Social Planets” or “Interpersonal Planets”. The Sun ☉

The Sun is a symbol of the heart of our personality because it is the center of our solar system. It is the essence of who we are, our basic nature, and our core sense of self.

Classified by what is known as “essential dignities”, planets are said to be “in fall” in the sign exactly opposite their exaltation and “in detriment” in the sign directly opposite their rulership.

In the case of the Sun, it is exalted (or most powerful) in Aries and rules over Leo (where it is domicile, or at home). The sign of Libra causes the Sun to fall, while it is considered to be in detriment in the sign of Aquarius.

Saturn ♄
